Rose came to me for coaching a few years ago. She was a burnt out marketing executive struggling to keep up with the demands of her job. In truth, the passion had completely run out of her.
As we began working together, I could see that beneath the greyness that had become her working life, amidst the hustle and grind, there was a vibrant, richly creative and dynamic woman waiting to be released.
As we worked together, Rose dug into what she truly wanted for her life. We looked at what her most purposeful work would be if she gave herself permission to envision it.
We didn’t need to dig too deep. Right there, just an inch below the surface, was a bounty of fully formed dreams waiting to be expressed.
There were books and blogs and writing trips to a remote cabin in the woods.
There were meditation retreats and a longing to study.
And there was a big beautiful dream about a wellness place where people could gather, gain respite from the busyness of the world, get quiet and go deeper into themselves.
All of the dreams. Purposeful. Passionate. Ready to be born.
But not yet.
Because it appeared that there were more lessons for Rose to learn, as she spent another four years going in and out of marketing jobs, each time burning out a little more, yet also gaining more clarity on what she did and didn’t want for her future.
And there was a path of transition that needed to unfold as well.
It came in the form of deep study into meditation that underpinned her last few years of work, deepening her own practice, sense of self and readiness to act.
It was her pathway out of a world she had at times thought she would never escape from.
And then one day, she was ready.
Recently, Rose had her last day of work in the marketing world. She had all the lessons she needed to be able to release herself from that path, and move into her purposeful one.
Purpose comes to us as we are ready for it.
As we show up for the work. Learn the lessons. Ride the wave that is our crazy messy life.
Don’t feel like you have to move too quickly.
Let it marinate. Until it’s in your bones. Embedded in your psyche.
Until it’s ready to be released from your soul.
Until you’re ready.
