One of my favorite episodes of Super Soul Sunday is the interview between Oprah Winfrey and Jean Houston. I must have listened to it at least half a dozen times.
They discuss many things, most notably consciousness, being a woman, the state of the world, purpose, the hero and heroine’s journey, ageing and fulfilling their purpose.
Toward the end of the conversation, they are discussing what it’s like for Jean to have reached the age of 75. Jean then turns the question on Oprah, and asks her where she wants to be at75. Here is what Oprah said:
“I want to fully embody the calling. I think I’m sort of touching around the edges of it. And I knew that for me to release the Oprah show, which was very comfortable for me to do, and to step into this next generation of being able to reach people at a different level, I knew that that would be challenging.
But I want to go out like a comet knowing that I really fulfilled the mission. That’s what I want. And at 75 I want to be able to sit here on a Sunday morning and say I am doing exactly what I want to be doing. I want this platform that we are speaking on right now to be an international world wide service for people and I want millions of people to join us all over the planet in the gathering of our community here to talk about these ideas that become idealized and actualized within the human spirit. That’s what I want.”
A woman of substance and sovereignty, and with the utmost clarity, she has a greater vision that she is showing up for every single day.
Her legacy is still beyond her, there is more to do, even after all she has created and all that she is.
There are more people to serve. More consciousness to raise. More light to bring.
What a beautiful and inspiring example of a woman standing in her purpose, in her power, in her mission, and in partnership with those who walk along side her.
“I want to go out like a comet knowing that I really fulfilled the mission.”
May we all know this sense of purpose. And we may we all rise up to meet it.
